In autumn 2008 building work begins on the new Galerie building in Schwerin. This is a new, modern shopping arcade, designed to fit in with the architecture of the city. This huge project is only possible when integrated with the hotel building. Therefore the Mercure Schwerin Altstadt will be closed from 05 October 2008 and then demolished. However, work has begun on the new Hotel Mercure in Klosterstraße, situated right in the heart of the Old Town. The hotel expects to welcomes guests here from March 2009. This lovely new hotel has 40 rooms and is even more central, being closer to the castle and theatre.
