Dating back to the 17th century and restored in 1999 into 17 holiday apartments, the apart-hotel represents the most impressive example of Baroque architecture in the centre of El Puerto de Santa María. Locally the apart-hotel is known as the Casa de los Leones the House of Lions as these fine beasts decorate the pillars of the entrance of the apart-hotel. Although the entire façade stunningly decorative, the wavy balcony is exceptional, with its design of wrought iron serving to intensify the Baroque appeal of this unique building. There is also a statue of the Virgen de la Escalada in her oratory flanked by 2 pillars. The virgin comes from the mountains and is crafted in gilded ceramic and dates from the 17th century. The main interior courtyard/patio and the galleries that surround it, has traditional wooden beams, balusters and wrought iron all of which has been fully-restored. The LOS OLIVES HOTEL has a 3 star rating and is located right in Arcos de la Frontera town centre in the province of Cadiz. It is an old, typically Andalusian-style house that was built in 1912 and adapted to become a hotel in 1986. It was last refurbished in 2002. The hotel sleeps a total of 37 people. Built in true local style, it has whitewashed walls, wrought iron railings on the windows, ochre-coloured roof tiles and a pretty central courtyard full of plant pots and decorated with chairs and coffee tables. Guests are served under palm trees and there is a lovely bar from where a stone well can be seen. The hotel is in one of the most central streets of the city, on the main parallel and only a few minutes' walk from its historic centre, declared a national historic/artistic monument in 1962.
